ABOUT

SDAB
San Diego Academy of Ballet and Ballet Theatre is committed to nurturing, conditioning and training dancers who are interested in either the pursuit of a professional career, or simply dancing for the love of it.

Regardless, the caliber of the coaching, standards, and expectations does not change.

Irrespective of age, gender, and goals, the academy is an environment that nurtures an unwavering loyalty to premium training, and professional performances.

Established in 2001 upon a bedrock of the purest tradition of classical, Russian tradition, the academy is invested in the distinction of not being everything to everyone, but rather being the best for some. Its homegrown legacy, compounded by its attraction of international talent, synergizes an unparalleled legacy of exceptional ballet curriculum in San Diego.

In addition to the training, the SDAB facilities are designed to mimic the grandiosity of a theatre performance - giving dancers the freedom and space to move as if on stage.

Each studio is crafted with specially designed wood sprung Harlequin™ marley floors, uniquely constructed to absorb the shock from jumping's impact on the dancer's body. In addition, floor to ceiling mirrors, pass through breezes, high tech audio/visual systems and both men's and women's locker rooms complete with showers cater to a dancer's every need. The 11,000 square foot facility also houses central air and heat, a costume/wardrobe storage facility and easy parking.

Since its establishment, SDAB has provided San Diego with both quality ballet instruction, and annual professional productions held at varying top tier theatres across the county, including but not limited to; the Escondido Center for Performing Arts,  Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Sherwood Auditorium, and various other theaters throughout the county.

SDAB’s productions include full length ballets, as well as excerpts from a classical repertoires danced in companies across the world.

Each instructor offers quality instruction in order to both challenge and support each student. Students are placed in classes appropriate for his or her age, experience, and ability.

Under the artistic direction of Sylvia Tchernychev, former prima ballerina with California Ballet, a mission of  comprehensive ballet curriculum in a positive and supportive environment that encourages each student to fulfill his or her highest potential as a dancer is a priority.
