San Diego Academy of Ballet and Ballet Theatre opened its doors on September 29, 2001 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) ballet school, founded upon the finest tradition of Russian classical ballet training.
SDAB is home to three beautifully designed studios. Each studio is crafted with specialty wood sprung floors covered with high quality Harlequin Marley flooring, elegant wood barres, a baby grand piano, and high tech audio systems. The 11,000 square foot facility also holds an AC/Heater system, showers for both men and women, office space, and a costume/wardrobe space.
SDAB offers a thorough comprehensive ballet education, allowing each student to fulfill his or her highest potential, as a dancer. Since their establishment, SDAB has provided the San Diego area with both quality ballet instruction and annual professional ballet productions held at the Escondido Performing Arts Center, Poway Performing Arts Center, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Sherwood Auditorium, and various other theaters throughout the San Diego area. Some of SDAB’s productions include excerpts from the classical ballets Paquita, Les Sylphides, La Bayadere, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty, as well as, the full length Nutcracker. Students are also given the opportunity to showcase their talents, at the end of the year performance, through different dance forms such as Contemporary Dance, Jazz, and Tap. Some SDAB students have enjoyed the opportunity to perform and gain experience through competitions like YAGP (Youth America Grand Prix).
SDAB's instructors are highly trained and experienced individuals who have a solid understanding of the development of each student. Each instructor offers quality instruction in order to challenge each student, raise confidence, and create greater self-esteem. Each student is placed in classes appropriate for his or her age, experience, and ability.
It is our mission to offer a comprehensive ballet curriculum in a positive and supportive environment that encourages each student to fulfill his or her highest potential as a dancer. Students who aspire to become professional dancers will receive the challenge and training to do so with the opportunity to perform with the Ballet Theatre.
